- Physical therapy after your joint replacement surgery is a critical part of your recovery. It will help you regain range of motion and strength.
You need to book your initial assessment prior to your surgery, so that you ensure you can be seen within 3-5 days post operation.
- Initial Assessment - Physiotherapist meets with the patient for a one hour assessment. Treatment plan objectives and home care program is formulated and clearly explained to patient and if need be, to the family.
- Visits 2-4 - Initiation of active rehabilitation including: exercises; home care prescription; pain modalities (ie. electrotherapy, acupuncture, ultrasound, cryotherapy); range of motion techniques (ie. stretching/manual therapies). Reassessment after visit number four.
- Visits 5-7 - Progression of above with more advanced exercises and focus on functional return to ADL (activities and daily living).
- Visit 8 - Final evaluation, final home care prescription.
- 12 Weeks: We recommend that patients come back in to the clinic at the 12 week mark so that one of our clinicians can check to see that they have been compliant with their home care program and suggest possible adjustments if needed.
